1 Corinthians Part 12
Please read 1 Corinthians 7:25–40. What are some of the overarching principles you took away from this week’s sermon content?
Read Ephesians 5:22–33 and 1 Peter 3:1–7. There are passages in Scripture that list the obligations that spouses have to one another (see also 1 Corinthians 7:3–4). How should we understand Paul’s comment in 7:29 in light of the responsibilities of married couples to one another?
1 Corinthians 7 concludes Paul’s remarks on sexual immorality that began in chapter 5. In what ways have you been challenged in your thinking on topics such as marriage, singleness, and sexual immorality in light of these texts?
Tim talked about how the culture and legal system of ancient Rome influenced the way people in the church viewed marriage. How do you see the current cultural opinions surrounding marriage and sexuality influencing the way the church handles such issues?
In what ways can you seek to implement some “flexibility” into your life to cultivate wholehearted devotion to Jesus in your current circumstances? What interests might be dividing your devotion to Jesus?
In what ways are you tempted to pursue autonomy over the true freedom that is found in submission to the Lord?
