1 Corinthians Part 3

  1. Please read 1 Corinthians 1:18–2:5.

  2. What are some examples of worldly wisdom? What are some ways we as Christians might be tempted to follow and seek worldly wisdom instead of the wisdom of God?

  3. Paul told the Corinthians to “consider [their] calling” (1:26). Think about your own life. How have you seen the power and wisdom of God on display in your own life and salvation?

  4. Ethan gave some diagnostic questions to help us identify areas of boasting. Consider the ways in which you are tempted to boast. How does 1 Cor 1:18–2:5 help to combat that temptation? How might you take steps today to remove these temptations to boast? Consider also Phil 3:2–11.

  5. Last week, we discussed the temptation to enhance the message of the gospel by our own eloquence and human wisdom. This week, discuss some ways that we are tempted to add to or water down the gospel (i.e., preach more than Christ and Him crucified).

  6. We are pursuing some lofty goals this year as a church family. What are some ways that we as a church can guard against the temptation to boast in ourselves and remember that “boasting belongs to the Lord” as we seek to achieve these goals?
