1. Thinking about this entire section of 1 Corinthians, what were some of your main takeaways regarding spiritual gifts usage in the church?

2. Please read 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21. What are some ways you are personally tempted to quench the spirit’s work in your life? What are some ways testing might work in a church gathering?

3. Have you experienced prophecy used in an edifying way as is described in 1 Corinthians 14? Are there ways we should consider allowing for a category of “spontaneous leading or sharing” from the Spirit within?

4. Please read Acts 2:1-21. Thinking about this passage in light of Genesis 11 and the Tower of Babel, what is the purpose of tongues? How then does it seem like that has been twisted in Corinth?

   1. How does Philip’s daughter’s prophesying seem to contradict 1 Corinthians 14:34-35? Does it actually contradict?

   2. Did Agabus’ prophecy come true? What can we learn about New Testament prophecy from this moment between Agabus and Paul?

6. What are some important guard rails for us to consider when thinking about spiritual gifts and especially tongues and prophecy? Consider 1 John 4:1-2
